Ricardo Henriques
Ricardo Henriques is a Partner at Abreu Advogados in Lisbon and a member of the Board of Directors of the Abreu’s Knowledge Institute.
Ricardo has extensive experience on all aspects of Advertising, Media and Entertainment Law, including contest, promotions and games. Ricardo’s practice focuses also on Technology Law both in Portugal and international markets, from start-ups to the largest market leading companies, namely on software licensing, compliance projects regarding emerging technologies, telecoms and issues related to e-commerce. Ricardo also advises clients on Intellectual Property matters, concerning the protection and growth of brands patents and other industrial property rights, preventing and/or resolving litigation focused on copyright and licensing, data protection and other regulatory issues.
Ricardo has also advised several clients on compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and other data protection laws as well as on projects related to Compliance, from implementing ethics codes, corruption and money laundering prevention, internal investigations or investigations arising from regulatory interventions.
Concerning the wide-ranging national and multinational companies Ricardo advises, his portfolio includes a variety of clients from all industries including automotive, pharmaceutical, services, healthcare, financial, consumer goods manufacturers, hardware and software developers, retail and online retailers. He also works closely with a variety of technology law firms around the world enabling him to assist clients in their global expansion and to protect their intellectual property in different jurisdictions.
Ricardo holds a Law Degree from Faculdade de Direito da Universidade de Lisboa (1997-2002). He has Postgraduate Diplomas in Professional Sports Law (2005), in Information Society – Copyright, Internet and Electronic Commerce Law (2005) and in Intellectual Property (2006) and also a LL.M. in Competition Law (2009).
He has been writing various publications and articles, national and internationally, and is an active member of professional associations, such as the Global Advertising Lawyers Alliance (GALA), the Portuguese Association of Industrial Property Consultants (ACPI), the International Federation of Intellectual Property Consultants (FICPI), the International Association for the Protection of Intellectual Property (AIPPI), the ItechLaw Association and the International Association of Privacy Professionals (IAPP).
