Douglas J. “Doug” Wood is principal of the Law Offices of Douglas J. Wood PLLC in Leland.

For more than 45 years, Doug practiced law in New York, with 20 years spent at Reed Smith, one of the world’s largest law firms.  He moved to North Carolina in 2020 and retired from Reed Smith in 2024.  Today, his focus is on counseling a select group of clients and coaching law firms and attorneys on mastering business development and executing seamless practice transitions. Doug has authored 11 books.  His latest non-fiction venture, “From Dawn to Dusk,” distills decades of legal experience into actionable strategies for building and transitioning successful law practices. On the fiction side, Doug has authored seven award-winning novels, each with themes ranging from politics and terrorism to serial killers. His next novel, “Deadly Bytes,” is scheduled for publication in 2026. All of his books are featured at https://douglasjwood.com. 

Doug received his B.A. in Political Science from the University of Rhode Island, his J.D. from the Franklin Pierce Law Center, and an LLM in Trade Regulation from the New York University School of Law.  He also has an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from the University of New Hampshire.
